Life gave me luck enough to become a mom of three now adult children and grandma to three grandchildren. This is my joy when I spend time with them. It's true what everyone says about being a grandparent. I've been working at DSC in one capacity or another since 1998 which began at Bailly Elementary as a lunch cashier. This was before the computer was used for collecting the money for lunches. Let's not bring age into it!
I then began working in Media/Technology as a Technology Aide/Technician in 2004 and began traveling to different Duneland schools during 2017-2020. Very fortunately now, I've landed here at CHS which is a wonderful place to be. I'm truly enjoying being in the High School library and seeing students I recognize from elementary grown into young adults.

Director of Orchestras
Greetings! I have been teaching for 20 years and hold a BME from Indiana State University and an MME from VanderCook, a College of Music in Chicago.
My wife, Amber, and I have been together since 1994 (marching band romance). We have three children: twins, Madeline and Sydney; and our youngest, Elliott. We live in Valparaiso with our dog, Cody, and my wife's cat, Pumpkin.
As a professional musician, I have performed trombone with the Windiana concert band, LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra, South Shore British Brass Band, North Coast Big Band, Star Orchestra, The German Band Inc, and numerous community musicals and smaller engagements. I have been fortunate to study privately with fantastic music educators: Dr. Randy Mitchell, trombone 1994; Dan Devries, fingerstyle guitar 2000; and Katalin Kallay, violin 2014.
As a student of music, I am committed to professional development. In past summers I have attended conducting workshops at University of Michigan and Ball State University as well as participating two summers at the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Improvisation Camp.
I regularly attend the Midwest International Band & Orchestra Clinic in Chicago and the state music education conference. I have presented two clinics at IMEA state conventions: "Jazz Improvisation Strategies" with Michael Palmer in 2011 and "Guitar in the Classroom" in 2013. In March of 2014, I participated in the American String Teachers Association national convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
My professional organizations include the National Association for Music Educators, Indiana Music Educators Association, Indiana Bandmasters Association, International Trombone Association, American String Teachers Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Professional Fraternity.

My greatest interest is how our brains work in helping (or inhibiting) learning and strive to teach using the most effective strategies to assist all students in mastering the subject.
